Little did I know that eating out was about to come to a screeching halt. I had lunch with a friend on March 2. Stay-at-home orders soon followed.
For me, eating out on keto is simple, but very limited. I cook and eat so well at home that I actually prefer it to going out. Typically, I will order a cheeseburger (without the bun, of course). Depending on the restaurant, I may get a double burger. I’ll load it with whatever low carb options are available: bacon, mushrooms, onions, mayo, etc.
A salad, with plenty of fatty salad dressing rounds out the meal nicely. Maybe a glass of red wine or, if it’s during the day, coffee or hot tea with Splenda and plenty of cream or half and half.
Another great option is a Cobb salad or chef’s salad. Any salad with plenty of protein and fat. I’ve enjoyed incredible salads filled with chicken, turkey, shrimp or steak. Add bacon, avocado, cheese, eggs and douse with ranch or blue cheese dressing – that’s some good eating there!
I skip the bland chicken breasts and steamed vegetables and basically go with these standbys. I’m not about to waste my money on tasteless, boring meals, when I can eat luxuriously at home. Plus, I know what I’m getting when I cook it!
Even though eating out options may be limited, you can probably find these keto alternatives available for carryout.
