I ate chicken burgers with garlic aioli several times this week, even though I was supposed to avoid garlic after my cyst excision procedure.
I was happy to get in some exercise this week. On Sunday, I put out my deck furniture (not a lot, but it involved constant back and forth from the garage to the back of the house since there’s no man door in my garage). I also cleaned out half of the garage. And on Monday I got in a bike ride. It was a much easier ride than the last time, even though the route and the distance were the same.
Tuesday was supposed to be a fasting day but I was feeling a little down. I had a few minor hunger pangs, which I can usually ignore, but nah, not today. I own the fact that I can sometimes be an emotional eater.
On Wednesday, I finally had the procedure to remove the cyst and embedded blackhead that I talked about in Week 20. (Due to COVID, it was really hard to get an appointment just to be seen.)
Now, I rarely use pain medication, but I usually keep some ibuprofen on hand.
Well, these wounds WOKE UP around 9:30 pm. When I realized that ibuprofen wasn’t allowed, I tore up the house looking for Tylenol. I thought maybe I had a couple of packets from the medical supply station at work. I thought maybe I had some stashed with my travel bag. Surely, there’s some in my first aid kit. No, nope, nada.
I decided to suck it up, and I had a hard time sleeping that night. Believe me, I was up early to go get that Tylenol. I waited until bedtime on Thursday to take the Tylenol, and it made all the difference in the world. I slept well that night.
I fasted on Thursday and it was really easy because I was not hungry at all. I didn’t even want broth. I wasn’t thirsty and I had to keep reminding myself to drink water.
I made some coffee, but right as I was pouring it into the mug, I remembered I wasn’t supposed to have caffeine, so I poured it right back into the carafe.
There were several foods and supplements I couldn’t have for three days after the procedure – caffeine, alcohol, garlic pills, aspirin, etc. My colonoscopy is scheduled for the next week and I have to avoid high-fiber foods (no nuts, seed, salad or vegetables). I had to make the dietary shift on Sunday.
I had a pretty good grilled cheese sandwich on Saturday. I buttered and salted this 90-second keto bread in the skillet (I used a square plastic container rather than a bowl). The cheeses I used were Aldi’s (knockoff) Velveeta-style, NY sharp cheddar, and fresh grated Parmesan. As you can see in the picture below, it was a little thin which made it difficult to slice in half evenly – the top piece has a hole in it. I’ll try the recipe again, with a few changes.
